The entire Puppy
Pen is 12' L x 4' W x 30"
H
Jon-Art Whelping Box 4'x4'x30" This is a Custom Box which is extra
tall with a front and a side door.
Eight 24"W x 30"H Rover Enclosure Panels and two gate panels.
Four gate clips to attach the panels to the box. Ten Straight Stabilizers and
Four Corner Stabilizers.
Two custom 4'L pieces of pipe and Four Corner Stabilizers screwed to them to
make the center supports.
When the pups are three weeks old, the safety rails (pig rails)
are removed and the Whelping box becomes the "potty box".
It is 4'L x 4' W x 30"H.
Inside on the floor is a 4x4 Black Weaning Mat (Farmtek
HA1035 Multi-Purpose Utility Mat 4' x 4').
One 9"W x 18"L patio block makes
a step.
Then the box is filled with low-dust pine shavings. On the play area side, I put
another patio block as a step up into the box.
At four weeks old, a medium size Magnador that is mounted on a 1/2" thick piece of
non-porous plastic is put in the doorway.
The door flap is bungee corded in the UP position for the first week.
When the pups
are reliably using the shavings, then the flap is dropped and they are taught to
use the Magnador.
The play area is 8' L x 4' W x 30"H
On the floor are two 4x4 Black Weaning Mats (Farmtek
HA1035)
with raised lips to keep the water
or urine from running out onto the floor.
A medium/small plastic Doskocil Dog house
provides a cuddly sleeping area, but they can't climb on it.
Two blue plastic Rover Enclosure water bowls are attached to the pen (not shown)
and used as water bowl holders.
Two 1 Quart stainless steel bowls are placed inside the blue bowls to make it
easier to clean and refill the bowls.
Of
course they have lots of toys and a color TV tuned to PBS kids TV.
They are constantly visited by people and my adult dogs.
The rugs and floor are constantly being vacuumed (one down-side to the pine
shavings)
so they are exposed to lots of noise and commotion.
This
entire set up is made of plastic and rubber so it is extremely easy to clean and
disinfect
The puppies are mostly housebroken by the time they leave because they know to
go through a door to go "out" to potty and poop.
This
set up will work for puppies up to 3 months old.
After that, I find they are getting too heavy for the plastic pen to withstand
the pups jumping on the panels at this 8' length.
